LA – Day 7 (Last Day in CA)
Our last day in LA was pretty low-key. It started out with an early morning walk. Mine and I walked about 3 miles while Katie did a workout at CrossFit LA. She is a member of the CrossFit gym in Lincoln and is good friends with the guys that started/run the Lincoln location. She has been trying to get me to do the workouts with her, but I find that when I'm training for a race it's hard for me to put effort into exercising that isn't running. I'm sure cross training would be good for me, but I just remember being so tired during marathon training! Maybe next time I'm in a lull I'll try it out. But I'm not gonna lie, it kinda scares me.
We picked up bagels for breakfast. I had a multigrain bagel with plain cream cheese and a green superfood smoothie.
We came home, did some laundry, and played with the cats. I'm not really a cat person, I just started to miss my puppy so much that I let the cats "fill in" for her.
(Katie would hold the kitten up like Simba and I would sing the Lion King song. There was a lot of ridiculous singing on this trip!)
Colin had to go to school for a little while, so we dropped him off at UCLA and drove through several 'famous' neighborhoods on our way to lunch. Let's see if I can get the order right:
- Bel Air
- Beverly Hills
- Hollywood
- Silver Lake
- Echo Park
For lunch we ate at a place called Masa, where one of Mine's friends works. It was a cute little place with lots of veggie and non-veggie options.
I was craving pizza and ordered something I never get to order at home...veggie buffalo 'chicken' pizza! It was a thin crust topped with buffalo sauce, veggie buffalo chicken, mozzarella and blue cheeses, and celery. It was good - and really spicy! Best served with a nice, cold, honey blonde ale.
After lunch we drove a short distance to visit Dodger Stadium. Now, don't get me wrong, I am a Red Sox fan. But I am also a baseball fan. Plus, with baseball season right around the corner (Opening Day is this Sunday!!) it was nice to see a baseball field with the sun shining down upon it! And on the off-chance that we ran into Manny Ramirez, we would be able to punch him in the face.
We were told to 'follow the blue line' to get to the gift shop, which seemed a little absurd since there were no cars in the parking lot...
...but it got us there!
We kinda went to the stadium on a whim. We didn't realize we would get such sweet views of the field...
...or such sweet views of the downtown skyline...
...or such sweet views of such sweet trees in the parking lot. Ok, I'm finished now.
Next, we did a little shopping and then picked up Colin and headed for a final trip to Pinkberry (we miss you, awesome fro-yo place!) This time I got the original flavor with blueberries, coconut, and sunflower seeds. Yum!
Back at the apartment, we packed up all of our clean laundry (makes unpacking so much better!) and got ready to settle in for the night. We needed to leave for the airport at 5:15AM, so we just got take out and watched a couple of (severely disturbing) episodes of 'Intervention'. Oh, but this was not just any old take out. We got In-N-Out Burger!
This just proves I actually got out of the car in the drive-thru lane to take pictures of a fast food restaurant. What you can't see is that I was in my pajamas! Who am I becoming?!
Ok, I don't really know why I was so excited about this. I guess it's just because we don't have In-N-Out where I live and you hear celebrities talking about eating it after the Oscars.
Plus, they have a 'secret' online menu, so you can order your fries 'animal style' and sound like an insider! Otherwise, this is the menu you get:
You know it's gonna taste good if the bag gets more and more translucent on the way home!
I got a 'grilled cheese' with lettuce, tomato, and pickle, fries and a soda. Tasted pretty good!
Ok, quick remarks about my airport eats the next day. This little number was a pretty good choice for a small breakfast.
This little number ended up being a horrible choice for lunch.
Sounded ok, but everything was brown and slimy. I took one bite and threw it out. I hated to waste so much money, but I would have rather eaten $7 worth of quarters than finish that sandwich. I did better the second time around, with this:
Ok, that is it for my vacation recaps. I hope you've enjoyed them! I'm planning to continue with nightly postings and will be discussing my upcoming running/racing plans soon!
