Bikes, Blooms, & Baseball at the 'Blatt
Yesterday was another beautiful day! I have really been trying to soak up the nice weather and be grateful for it. This winter was a rough one, even for a girl like me who loves the snow!
The other night, Katie and I went out for dinner. I ordered a spinach and artichoke lavash off of the appetizer menu. It did say this could be shared by 2, but this thing was gigantic!
Just look at it compared to Katie's dinner plate!
I kid, I kid. These leftovers (that I just noticed look like a rotisserie chicken you'd pick up at the grocery store) will feed us for days.
In fact, I've been bringing them to lunch with extra tomatoes and spinach piled up on top.
Yesterday I tried to break up the day by enjoying my lunch outside. I've been in kind of a rut at work lately. I'm not sure if it's because my manager/best friend at work recently left (miss you, Jill!) or if I'm stressed or bored or what. You'd think I'd be refreshed after a week of vacation, but I think I'm still wishing I was just hanging out with Katie, Mine, and Colin all day (imagine that!)
On my walk home from work, I noticed these beautiful blooms on a tree on the Joslyn Castle property.

I love that blogging has encouraged me to take a camera with me wherever I go! I am learning how to take pictures little by little. Practice makes perfect, right?
Up until last August, Katie and I lived literally across the street from the Joslyn Castle. And now we're only 4 blocks away. It's a little piece of Omaha's history that I didn't even know existed while I was growing up here. It is really pretty and so unique. We used to take Stella on walks on the grounds. Can you believe I've never been inside?! I should do that!
During the day yesterday I got a text from a friend asking if we'd like to go to a baseball game that evening. Heck yes! Omaha doesn't have any professional sports teams, but it is home to the Omaha Royals Minor League Baseball team. It is also home to the College World Series! They are building a new stadium (which was a HUGE political debate here) so this is the last year of games at the original Rosenblatt Stadium (the 'Blatt).
Since going to the 6:35 game meant I would have to miss my yoga class, I decided to ride my bike to the stadium for a workout! It was a little over 5 miles away, but I knew there was at least one major hill that I'd have to tackle. I mapped out a route that included a paved trail, so I only had about 3 miles of riding with traffic to worry about. Here's to hoping the hills aren't bad!
Turns out the one big hill I knew about was definitely the worst of it! The ride was fairly quick and (luckily!) uneventful.
However, I'm glad that I had planned to put my bike on the back of Katie's car and ride home with her because when I came out of the game my rear tire was flat!
Before I left for the game, I had the leftover curry tofu salad from one of the weekend's BBQs. This is a cold salad from Whole Foods that contains tofu, red bell pepper, carrot, green onion, golden raisins, sliced almonds, and a curry dressing. It is quite good!

I made my way inside the stadium and met up with Katie, Laura, Sean, and Anna. (I swear we weren't the only people there!)
I got a soft pretzel....that had TONS of salt on it!
I ended up scraping off all of the salt onto the floor.
Yay for baseball!! Have I told you we're going to Boston this summer to see the Red Sox play at Fenway?! Woot woot!!
The huge dome in the background of this picture houses the world's largest indoor desert and is part of our amazing Henry Doorly Zoo.
The zoo is also home to the Lied Jungle, which is the world's largest indoor rainforest. There is a really cool aquarium, too! If you ever visit Omaha and ask what you should do, most likely someone will tell you to go to the zoo. I realize this might sound kind of lame, but it really is awesome - for kids and adults, alike! It's really big and has some good hills for nice walking workout. You can also get around using the tram or the newly installed a chairlift ('skyfari').
Okey doke, time for bed. It's getting pretty windy...I wonder if we're expecting a thunderstorm?! Another springtime favorite!
