Cinco de Mayo 5K

On Wednesday, Katie and I ran the Cinco de Mayo 5K that was held by our local running store.

It was a small and low-budget race, making it perfect for a Wednesday evening activity! It was an out and back course on a bike path, so it was pretty congested at the start. There was no chip timing, but according to my Garmin, I finished in 25:42 - a new PR! My splits were:

  • Mile 1 - 8:16
  • Mile 2 - 8:28
  • Mile 3 - 8:20
  • Mile 3.1 - 0:38

It was sunny and warm, but the wind was fairly gusty. I felt good throughout most of the race, but that last little 'sprinting' bit made me feel a tad nauseous. Good thing there were tacos and margaritas waiting for me at the finish line! :)

I knew the vegetarian options would be minimal at best, so I brought along a PB&J, which I enjoyed with some tortilla chips and 2 frozen lime margaritas.

Amanda is my new running buddy! It's so nice to have someone else to race with! We met at the running club, and have been running together these past couple of weeks. As it turns out, she knows my little sister - small world!

There are a couple of other races I've got my eye on for the near future, but no commitments yet. I feel like I'm still getting back into things and don't want to try to do too much too soon, risking injury and burn out. I'll keep you updated, though! Until then, I'm going to try to keep up with my training and meeting with the running club twice a week - so far so good! Speaking of which, I've got a long run scheduled for the morning, so it's off to bed for me. Goodnight!
