Can You Dig It?

Hello! So, I had 2 revelations on Friday regarding having a car.

  1. I can run errands on my lunch break...it's like adding another hour to my day!
  2. I can make dentist appointments for anytime I want! Do you know how hard it is to schedule appointments around a firefighter's schedule?! (Especially one that works in another city!)

So, yes, I had a very productive Friday! We completed our big project on time, I was able to wrap up some smaller tasks that were left behind during the mad rush of the week, I ran a couple of errands over lunch, and I scheduled a dentist and an eye doctor appointment. Go me! :)

After work, I headed out for a 4 mile run that ended up being a 2.5 mile run. :( The first mile felt good, but then it just felt...hard. I couldn't get into the mindset to push myself, so I decided 2.5 was better than none, and came home early. Oh well.

Friday evening I went to a wedding shower for my friends Sean & Anna. They are getting married this July - and their wedding is going to be so much fun! Katie is actually in the wedding. She and Sean have been friends for years.

Isn't Anna pretty?! You might say she's glowing. ;)

Can you believe we have 5 weddings to attend this Summer?! And neither of us were in a sorority! :) It's actually kind of nice because I can get some ideas for our wedding. I should start planning that one of these days...

On Saturday, Kate & I had plans to meet up with some friends for brunch and Farmers Marketing (can I make Farmers Market into a verb?!) To tide me over, I had a crumpet when I got up. Crumpets are great! They are spongy and have a slightly sour taste (think sourdough bread). I find these in the refrigerator section of the grocery store, near the eggs and tubes of biscuit dough.

I like mine toasted with cream cheese and raspberry jam. Yum.

It was a good thing the weather was gorgeous because our brunch at Upstream took FOR-EV-ER (said like Squints from The Sandlot). The place was seriously understaffed, and the food was nothing to write home about. I got a cinnamon raisin bun and scrambled eggs with cheese. I found out later that the cheese cost me Katie an extra $1.50. :(

After we got home, I took a little nap while Katie ran some errands, and then we finally got to digging our garden!! Having a yard of our own was a big reason we bought a house. We wanted a space for Stella, a place to hang out and grill, and space for a garden. We have really nice grass, so it broke my heart a little to tear it up for the garden plot. :( I just kept telling myself, "Soon there will be peppers and tomatoes and herbs here! You can't eat grass." I also made sure to save all of the worms that I could. :)

Man, digging up grass is hard work! With the 2 of us working, a 12' x 1.5' area took us 4 hours! And we are only 1/4 of the way finished. Yeesh!

We had a of beer to celebrate our accomplishment!

We took a break for lunch at some point. We had wraps (mine was veggie burger, spinach, Laughing Cow cheese, and honey mustard) and peanut butter parsnip fries. The parsnip fries didn't turn out as well as the sweet potato fries, but I think it's because I cut them too thin so they charred a little.

While we were working in the yard, Stella had a full day of chasing squirrels, birds, bunnies, and snakes! At one point she was just standing in the sun, staring off into space. We brought her bed outside, and she just curled up in it and watched us work. I think she was beat!

For dinner, I made Mexi-Mac. I had a box of Annie's shells & cheese that I jazzed up with sauteed onion, bell pepper, tomatoes, and jalapeno. I also added a couple of crumbled MorningStar Farms sausage patties. Yum!

And then we both passed out from exhaustion. Great Saturday!
