Soccer and Pizza
While the World Cup excitement was just wrapping up, we found out about another opportunity to get in on the soccer action. On Tuesday, the U.S. Women's National Team came to Omaha (of all places) to play a game against Sweden! Katie is a huge soccer fan, so we thought this would be a good way to celebrate her birthday. We met up with some friends for the game.
It was a really good time sitting on blankets in the grass (the G.A. section), with so many other people, watching some of the best athletes in the world do what they do best!
It was hot and muggy so I splurged on some Dippin Dots.
(I got the cookie dough flavor, but ended up leaving most of the cookie dough behind.)
Earlier this week, Katie and I ventured out to West Omaha to try a new locally owned pizza place, Dante Pizzeria - I love Neapolitan style pizza. Once we arrived, I was surprised to see that they had bocce ball in the restaurant! (I have no idea how to play bocce ball, but there were some people there who seemed to know what they were doing.)
I started with a Lucky Bucket Lager.
(Yes, Katie is wearing a shirt that says 'Bacon is a Vegetable'...:()
While perusing the menu, I learned a couple of interesting things about the restaurant. Most notably, they use several local sources for their ingredients!
Also, they have some great Happy Hour specials...
...as well as 6 pack and a pie deal!
Before coming to the restaurant, I had read that they have pizza with an egg on it, and I'd been dying to try it. However, once we were seated, I got a really bad headache and couldn't decide what I wanted to eat. I ended up ordering a pizza that came with olives, roasted red peppers, and spring onions.
It was a little too sweet for my taste (I prefer salty toppings - briny olives, romano cheese, etc) and the crust wasn't as crisp as I was expecting, but I will definitely try this place again. I think I just ordered the wrong thing this time. Katie ordered the oxtail gnocchi, which she said was delicious. Next time I'd love to try one of the pizzas with egg or potato!
