On the Edge
I have been working on a post about my last long run for 4 days now. I'm not taking forever because the post is long or overly complicated or anything - it's more a testament of how crazy busy I've been. Every night when I finally sit down to blog, I find myself falling asleep with the computer in my lap. I've been putting in extra hours, wracking my brain with complicated work, and keeping up with my training runs so I am just wiped - both physically and mentally.
While eating dinner last night (at 10:00) I complained about how much stuff I had to do to get ready for the next day. Katie asked if there was anything she could help with. I immediately rattled off a list of about 40 things, which just goes to show how frazzled I am. The list contained things like "set up the coffee for tomorrow", "lay out clothes for me to wear", "wash my running shorts", and "clean out the fridge"...all of which must be stored in an ever-accessible, giant TO DO list that I'm constantly fretting over on some level of my subconscious.
But two things I said last night really signify how close to the edge I've been feeling lately. One of the items on the list for Katie was "push me off of the couch" because the thought of actually summoning the energy to move myself was close to overwhelming at that point. The other was while stressing about packing my lunch, taking a shower, and setting my alarm (all small, doable tasks). I found myself saying, in a panicked voice, "The days just keep on coming!!!" Which I think means that I never feel like I'm caught up. Although it seems like I'm constantly checking things off of my list, they actually just fall to the bottom and reattach themselves, clinging for life.
So, I guess it's a good thing we go on vacation tomorrow!!! Well, it will be a good thing once I'm packed. Or start thinking about packing.
Katie, our good friend Laura, and I are shipping off to Boston for a long weekend. We scored awesome seats on the Budweiser Roof Deck for the Red Sox game on Sunday! We also plan to visit the Harvard campus, go on a duck boat tour, and possibly hit up the Sam Adams brewery again (we went last year is and it was great). I'm hoping for some glorious shopping, eating, and drinking, as well.
I will be sure to keep you updated.
In the meantime, please send me all of your best wishes for calmed nerves, good rest, and a packed suitcase. And no meltdowns at the airport. Thanks!
