Mother India
Our new dishwasher is being delivered tomorrow (woohoo!), which means our current dishwasher is officially out of commission.
To celebrate, Kate offered to take me to dinner. Or maybe it was to limit the number of dishes that will need to be hand-washed....either way, I took her up on it.
We are incredibly lucky to have the absolute best Indian restaurant in all of Omaha just a few blocks from our house. Mother India is definitely a diamond in the rough. A tiny gem of a restaurant. The kind that you want to tell everybody about, but worry that once the secret is out the crowds will make impossible to snag one of the precious few tables in the place.
Luckily for us, tonight's crowd was small, and the restaurant cozy. We're back to winter weather in these parts, so a warming Indian meal was perfect.
We started by splitting an order of vegetable pakora: battered and fried cauliflower, potatoes, and onion that had been dusted with curry powder. They are served with a spicy cilantro and yogurt sauce for dipping. Mmmmm.
I ordered the vegetable curry, and it was spot on. Just enough heat to taste spicy but still tolerable.
And we split this gigantic naan, that was definitely bigger than my head.
Plenty of leftovers for tomorrow!
So if you are looking for great Indian food in Omaha, visit Mother Indian on 36th & Leavenworth...but invite me to go with you!
I'm now holed up in Borders with a coffee, free Wi-Fi, a good book, and no real agenda, while happily making a fool of myself jamming out to Mumford and Sons on my iPod. Love them.

It will set you free." - Mumford & Sons

I’ve never been though I feel like I drive by it all the time. It looks kind of like a dive. But it’s good?

It’s totally a dive, but the food is good! I remember hearing that the chef/owner worked at Indian Oven for many years before opening his own place.

wait, you still have a borders? i thought they filed for bankruptcy. the one here has been closed for a while now. have you ever seen a giant bookstore empty? it’s weird, apparently they had red walls. i never realized since it used to be covered with bookshelves.

weird, i never heard that about borders…maybe it’s a franchise thing? we have hardly any barnes & nobles here, so i don’t even know where we’d go if borders closed!

I’m loving Mumford & Sons right now. My husband makes fun of me because I listen to the same few songs over and over again but they’re so good I could listen all day!
