Oops
I knew it would happen sooner or later...
...I locked myself out of the house.
I left to take the dogs on a nice, long walk, but failed to grab my keys. Or my phone.
Thank goodness I know my neighbor well enough to knock on her door! I knew she would let me use her phone. Trouble was, I only have 2 phone numbers committed to memory: Kate's and my parents' home line. Kate was at work in Lincoln, and my parents do not have a copy of my key. Laura has a copy, but I don't know her number off the top of my head!
Ay, ay, ay.
So, after the longest game of phone tag in the history of the world, we finally got ahold of Kate's mom, who luckily had a surprise spare key. What a mess.
Meanwhile, the pups were left in the backyard. Thank goodness it was so nice out.
I ended up sitting with my 80 year old neighbor for about an hour, chatting between the various phone calls. She showed off pictures of her new granddaughter, who was adopted from China - so sweet! I think we actually both enjoyed the company.
Luckily, I had eaten dinner before the walk. I made a quick tomato sauce to go with frozen spinach & cheese ravioli. I bulked it up with some wilted spinach and pine nuts. Pretty tasty for a 10 minute meal!
So, morals of the story are:
- Make friends with your neighbors.
- Give spare keys to more than one friend. Better yet, give a set to your new neighbor friends.
- Commit several phone numbers to memory. Perhaps those belonging to your friends holding your spare keys.
- Don't lock yourself out. But if you're going to, do it in nice weather. And eat dinner first.
