Wedding Wednesday – Big BIG News!
Holy moly, guys, we did it! WE SET A DATE!!
6/2/2012
Nope, it's not it the fall. And, no, it's not even in April or May like I alluded to. When all the calendars were lined up and options were weighed, the first Saturday in June fell out as the perfect time for us. Who would have guessed? Not me!
But I'm really excited about it! Kate's work schedule is such that she is already off May 29th - June 5th, and I will be off of work Monday the 28th for Memorial Day...lots of time to get last minute stuff done. My best friend and maid of honor, Mine, will be teaching next year, so this date gives her lots of flexibility for travel. And my brother, Pat, will have plenty of military leave built up and available for coming home.
As much as I love fall, the idea of a spring wedding has really grown on me. The flowers and trees are starting to bud, and the warm, sunshine-y weather has been so nice lately! I'm especially excited about what this could mean for our wedding photos. Once I realized how early it gets dark in November, I started worrying that all of our pictures would have to be taken indoors.
And did anyone notice the fun equation that our date makes?! 6*2=12 (It's the little things that excite this math nerd.)
So, are you ready for the 2nd part of the exciting news?? We booked a venue! AND IT'S A BARN!!
(not this barn...it's just next door)
This is the Ackerhust Dairy Barnin Bennington, NE. It is practically in Omaha - just 15 miles from our house! Here are some more pictures of the building.
I didn't take any pictures of the inside (there were people in there cleaning up from a party the night before), but you can kind of see it here. (photos from another wedding) It's pretty much a cement floor, white-washed walls, beams, and ceiling, and tons of windows. There are twinkle lights and paper lanterns in there already, but we can add whatever we'd like. I'm excited to think of all the ways to decorate!
Yay! I'm so happy to have this step under our belts. It was really tough, but I feel great about our decisions. And now comes the fun part, right?

woohoo! you know what this means? mine will have time to plan and throw the best bachelorette party eva! now, one question though. will katie and you have different bachelorette parties? actually in turkish these are generally called “farewell to singlehood” (what is the noun form of single?) so i might just call it that. bachelorette just sounds like you have to go to vegas and get trashed, and i’m thinking we can do much better than that. as in get trashed in somewhere other than vegas.

i like it! not sure if katie will have a seperate party or not…i could go either way. as long as neither way involves strippers.
