Terrific Lady Day
Yesterday Laura, Anna, and I had a Terrific Lady Day! (That's a reference to The League, by the way.)
We started with brunch at Come On Into My Kitchen, a little place just a mile or so away that we've been meaning to try for years now.

It's a quaint house that has been turned into a small restaurant. I like how it is cozy but still light and airy.
At first glance, we were a bit worried by the small menu. But after just a bite or two, we declared that a small menu is just fine if what you do, you do well! I got 2 poached eggs, cheesy hash browns, and rye toast.
Everything was perfect, and the little touches were noticed. They have a homemade hot sauce, which was actually more like a spicy pepper relish - and very good. They cooked the toast on a buttered griddle, like grilled cheese. Yum. And anyone that can poach eggs so well in a restaurant is a superstar in my book. The fact that they serve mimosas and good coffee seals the deal. We will be back.
After brunch, we headed out to do something unexpected...wedding dress shopping! It was suggested kind of casually, and when I didn't whole-heartedly object, I took it as a good sign. And it really wasn't bad at all! (Can you tell I've been dreading this?)
Kate, if you do not want to know anything about my dress, stop reading here!
So, I don't have a dress, but I have a MUCH better idea of what I want. Turns out, I didn't really like the flowy gowns that I was drawn to (like the first few mentioned here.) I like the way a more fitted dress looks...probably because I'm curvy. I don't want white, and I don't want shiny fabric (satin). And I actually prefer lace and straps/cap sleeves. Beading is ok, but I'd prefer if it wasn't sparkly. And I don't want poof or a train - keep in mind we'll be in a barn.
I've got 3 favorites noted down thus far. Of course #1 is the most expensive. Luckily, I don't feel super attached to it. Although, it was quite lovely.
I will keep looking. Laura pointed me to a couple of websites where you can buy pre-owned dresses at a discount that I might consider. I definitely want something that makes me feel beautiful, but I don't think it's worth pushing the budget for. Gah, I feel so abnormal saying that.
Next, we decided to drive around and look for open houses that we could pop in on. It was perfect timing - Sunday around 2:00pm. Anna and her husband, Sean, are currently house shopping, so I was more than happy to get in on the fun. I love looking at houses!
After a quick lunch, we hit up Borders for some coffee and perusing. I mainly flipped through wedding books and magazines for ideas (who am I?!). Instead of shelling out $5 for each magazine, I just took pictures of things that I liked. Is that wrong?
And then I topped off this lovely day with a glass of wine and a little crafting.
What a terrific Sunday!

That restaurant is right down the street from us but we’ve never been. It looks too small to take the girls to. I’m thinking we should check it out though. The food looks so good.
And that dress (from what I can see) is so pretty! Good luck shopping. I just knew when I put the right dress on. Hopefully that will happen, makes it easier.

I did notice a small kids menu…and maybe 2 kids in the restaurant.

PLEASE don’t let price be the only reason you don’t get the perfect dress! After I saw Jenny in the dress she picked out, we went looking for something less expensive, but nothing came close. And as it turned out, her dress couldn’t have been more perfect for her. It looked like it was made just for her. I’ll bring my checkbook, so when you find it, call me! Love you!

Lizz, I’m getting married at the end of the month. I’m happy to send all my pre-loved wedding magazines your way to serve as a source of inspiration etc. Several friends who got hitched before me shared the love with me, so I’ve got a collection of nice ones.
Also, if you do decide to do the tissue paper poofs, let me suggest you buy the tissue paper in bulk online. You can get a much better deal on it, which means you can have fuller poofs or more of them for the same price as if you purchased the supplies at a store in town. They are super simple to make and are a perfect project for you bridal brigade (i.e. family+fabulous friends) to help make. Plus, they offer a great visual pop and are easy to hang in a varity of spaces. I made some for our engagement party, and then didn’t want to take them down for like 4 months because I loved how happy it made me to look at them.

Annie, I can’t wait to see pictures from your wedding! Laura and I were just trying to figure out if it was this weekend…guess we’ll have to wait a little while longer!
Good call on ordering tissue paper online. I just love how the poofs seem like they’d be an easy (and inexpensive) way to bring lots of color to the room. Ah, I’m getting excited!

I’m just catching up on all your blogging (I got hooked with the garden one and started exploring). You’ve probably got a dress already, but – I did buy mine at a consignment store, secondhand, and it was a perfect, one of a kind (made specifically to order for the previous bride)! So, you definitely can find good deals (if you are still even shopping) on beautiful pre-owned gowns. I will say that I love the photo above – assuming that’s your shoulder
– dress looks gorgeous!

Oh, I’m so jealous that you found a great deal! I ordered one online that is very pretty, but I still have a couple weeks to return it. I think I’ll be making one last shopping trip this weekend and then I’ll decide. I will have to look up consignment shops around here. Thanks for the tip!
