Be Our Guest!
Good news, guests...we got you a bed!
We've been using a futon mattress laid on top of a broken futon frame (I like to refer to it as a 'platform bed') for our guests lately. We finally decided we would not be able to nurse it back to health, and that it was time to purchase a real bed. We took the opportunity to give the spare room a little (ie super budget-friendly) face lift.
We don't have a headboard yet, but I think a body pillow will do the trick fairly well in the meantime. (Plus, it was on sale for less than $5!) The cover ($8) matches the wall color almost perfectly.
A fitted bed skirt ($10) also helps give the bed more of a "complete" feel. Plus, it helps hide the fact that the box spring is a horrible shade of blue.
Some new bedding (2 shams + comforter on clearance for $25, throw pillow $10), a bedside table (already owned), and a couple of decorations ($25) make the room feel a little more put together. I picked up a few other useful things like a lamp ($20), an alarm clock ($10), and a small dish ($2) to help keep track of spare change and jewelry, etc.
We cleared a space in the closet for suitcases and made sure there were extra hangers for clothes. And a shelf with clean linens helps us make sure we're always prepared!
It may not get me on The Next Design Star, but I'd say our cozy little guest room feels a bit more cheery...and for just over $100 (plus the cost of the bed), I'm still smiling, too!
Ok, Laura, Eli, Erica, Pat, Mine, Colin, Katie, Chrissy, Steve, Tom, Anne, and Reeser...your room is ready!
