Happy Birthday, Kate!
This weekend was spent celebrating Kate's birthday! We did lots of fun stuff.
On Friday night, we met my parents and Kate's parents for dinner. We rarely get together, just the 6 of us, so this was pretty special.
Katie wanted to go to an oyster bar...and since you can't say no to someone on their birthday, this was the day to ask! (This was also how I got sucked into going on a tanking trip next weekend, but that's another story.) We went to Shucks which is owned and operated by Absolutely Fresh Seafood Company.
Luckily, my parents are big fans of raw oysters, so she had some people to do oyster shots with.
Kate's parents gave them a try, too!
Oyster cheers!
I stuck with beer and sides. Unfortunately all of the veggie options were fried. Deliciously fried, but still.
My mom knows of Kate's true love of s'mores, so she baked her these awesome s'mores cupcakes. They got a little melty in the heat, but they still tasted great!
Afterwards, we met up with some friends for a drink at the Homy Inn. We kept it classy by ordering pitchers of Champagne. Yep, you read that right. They have Champagne on tap, so you can order it by the pitcher.
High class.
Kate had to work on Saturday, so the celebration picked up again on Sunday. We met up with a group of friends for breakfast. Katie has been itching to try out Dixie Quicks ever since she heard us rave about it, so birthday weekend was the perfect opportunity to bring her.
I got the eggs Benedict with grilled tomatoes instead of ham. Yuuuuummm.
A little while later, we headed over to Sean and Anna's house to watch the Women's World Cup final. Katie and Sean have been watching World Cup soccer together for as long as we can remember. If it weren't for a horrific knee injury endured by Sean several years ago, the 2 of them would probably still be playing on an indoor league together.
(Love this picture. Check out Kate's and Sean's faces and the dog's (Bailey's) ears. Ha!)
Anyway, did you see the game? Heartbreaker.
And, of course, there were presents.
I got Kate a Nook, which I'm already jealous of.
I was torn between a Nook and a Kindle, but 2 things made up my mind.
- The new Nook is touch screen. With how much Kate does on her iPhone now, I figured touch screen would be a natural fit.
- Kindle is still the only eReader that does not offer books through the library. Weird, right? Anyway, Kate is a super fast reader, so I wanted to be sure she could get books through the library to keep her entertained without spending tons of money. I'm excited to see what's available!
I'd say that was a fun and festive weekend! Happy Birthday, Kate!! <3
