Getting Tanked
This weekend, Katie and I went tanking. This is like tubing, but you float down a river in a horse tank instead of an inner tube. Definitely a "country" activity (who has a horse tank?!?!) and so much fun!
Kate's friend, Cole, is from a small town in north central Nebraska. He invited us on this tanking trip, and at first I said no. I just didn't think my fair skin could take 8 hours in the sun. But then Kate asked me to go on her birthday, and I was somehow convinced. I'm so glad I went!
It was a busy day on the river, and our group of 21 were amongst 100+ others. We had a little bit of a wait at the launch site, so we made the best of the situation by bringing out some cold beer and lots of sunscreen.
Before long, we were loading up and pushing off!
The Cedar River is not very deep. You could probably walk the whole way alongside the tanks, which meant we spent lots of time wading, tossing the football, and hanging out in the sand.
Some of the big sand bars were popular stopping points, so we had a bit of a "party cove" going on. Fun!
The landscape was kind of surprising. We were in the sand hills, so the brush was short and scrubby. It was actually much prettier than I was expecting.
We did such a great job protecting our skin. Between Kate and I, we packed 5 bottles of sun block. I also brought a gauzy cover up and a big floppy hat. We managed to get through the day without sunburns - wahoo!!
I really had such a great time. What fun!

Yeah, I thought it was pretty funny! I’m just glad they weren’t metal, like I was expecting. That would have been hot! Although the blue plastic makes it looks like we were floating down a river in baby pools!

Oh my goodness – I want to go tanking now! And great job on not getting sunburns – I basically bathe in sunscreen these days – better safe than sorry, right?

Yes, the scent of sunscreen is permanent during the summer at our house…and to think, I used to like the smell!

this looks like fun but i’m pretty sure during my visit you were explaining this to me as something only crazy people do. also, if you guys are considering a honeymoon in the mediterranean you’re going to need to pack a whole suitcase of sun screen. i’m pretty sure they don’t even sell the spf you’d like in those parts of the globe
