Wedding Wednesday – Flower Pots

There is little that I love more than a good deal. Lame, but true. I walk straight to the clearance aisle/rack at every store. I know exactly where they all are. In fact, I had a hard time coming up with examples of things I regularly pay full price for.

  1. Gifts for Kate: It's kind of strange, but all of my money saving hang-ups go out the door when I'm shopping for Kate. Maybe it's because I want to get her the most perfect gifts, so I'm willing to pay for them.
  2. Running Shoes: If I have a brand/model of running shoe that works for me, I will order those same exact shoes until I can no longer find them. Which means I can usually get a deal once the newer model comes out. However, when I can no longer replace worn out shoes with an identical pair, I will pay full price for a new brand/model if it is the perfect shoe for me. I'm not talking color or style here, purely fit and function. So even though shelling out $140 (gasp!) for my new Kayanos was hard, I just remind myself that it's cheaper than physical therapy.

So, yeah, there ya go. I could only come up with 2 cases. Truth is, spending money makes me feel a little guilty. So when I can save money on something I need or something I want, I'm able to enjoy it more. And sometimes the act of scoring a great deal brings more joy than the item itself.

I promise you will not see me on Extreme Couponing. There's just not enough storage space in our house. ;)

Ok, where is all of this going? You guessed it - I scored a great deal on something for the wedding! Flower pots, to be exact. I thought these will look great displaying the fabric flowers that I'm making!

I'm thinking maybe these can be out front holding the flowers/escort cards, and then the jars will be on the tables to act as vases for everyone's flowers once they get to their seats.

I love how they're all a little bit different - lots of colors and textures.

Eclectic, like my flowers!

So, now for the second most exciting part (the first being how cute they are, of course)...I got all 8 of these for a mere $28! They were all marked down to between $2 and $5 at Marshall's. The grey plastic flower boxes I was considering from Target were $7 each. I'd say this was WAY better. Wahoo!

I'm not sure how I'll fill them to hold the flowers. Foam? Sand? Marbles? Any ideas for me?

  1. i’ve seen at a few coffee shops that they put coffee beans in a little jar/pot to hold the pens for customers to sign credit card slips. i find them so cute. so, maybe coffee beans? not the cheapest option but you could buy any coffee on sale to do it. for example after the holidays they usually have the peppermint flavored (yuck!) or after thanksgiving something like pumpkin flavored (another yuck! – i hate all holiday flavors) coffee on sale. maybe you could score some of those for cheap…

i’d also say don’t use foam, cause the flowers will make holes in them and then when a few of them are gone it’ll look messy.

i also like the idea of sand. but if it spills it’ll be more of a pain to clean up. i’m merely watching my own back here ;)

  2. If not coffee beans, you can also do any kind of dried bean. It doesn’t have the smell of coffee, but will be kinder on your pocketbook.
