Lit Up

Our tree has been sitting in water, still in the netting, for 3 days now. I figured it was about time I lit that thing up.

We only have little white twinkle lights, so I used a couple extra strands this year.

While I was at it, I attacked the fireplace with this impossible-to-photograph display.

It's supposed to look snowy...did it work?

Lastly, I found some green garland with lights wrapped around it that I put together at our previous apartment. Turns out we have the perfect doorway to use it in our house!

Now that the living room is officially "lit up", and I've had a glass of wine, I'm feeling nice and cozy. (I'll wait until Kate is here to finish decorating the tree.)

Speaking of our tree, I think we got the best smelling Christmas tree of all time! Super stoked about that. I'm even contemplating boxing up my (4) pine scented candles because they are just not needed this year.

With a little research, Kate found that Balsam firs are supposed to have the strongest scent. Unfortunately, we were not able to go to the tree farm this year, and the nursery we chose didn't have Balsam. Fraser firs were our next choice, although the underside of their needles tend to be silvery, which makes the tree seem to have a muted color.  A nursery employee recommended a Canaan fir. It had everything we were looking for in a tree: short needles, dark green color, and a nice, Christmasy scent. And it didn't hurt that it was priced lower than the Frasier fir, either!

Ok, I think it's time to snuggle up in my little winter wonderland with a good book.

P.S. It's snowing!!!

What kind of tree do you get?

  1. I have been wanting a Balsam 4 the last few years but haven’t been able to find one. My Frazier has no smell. Can’t wait to check out your Canaan.
