Christmas Pajamas
I love traditions. I'd probably be the first one in the family to argue with changing any of them. Maybe second to my youngest brother. (Hmmm...he was born on my birthday. A Pisces thing maybe??)
Anyway, I like the idea of building new traditions with Kate that we will be able to carry on with kids of our own someday. However, if you know anything about firefighters' schedules, you know that holidays cannot be taken off by everyone. Kate's department is on a 3 week rotation, which boils down to her having Christmas Eve off one year, Christmas Day off the the next year, and both off the following year. (Of course, leap years throw things for a loop, too.) My point is that I can't really count on traditions like "Every Christmas Eve we'll go to the gas station and get slurpees," or "Every Christmas morning we'll make cinnamon rolls and open our stockings first," because we are never guaranteed to have those times off together.
Still, I've been working on some more "general" traditions. One of which is the classic: New Christmas Pajamas.
Do you do this? I don't remember getting new pjs every Christmas growing up, but we definitely had some Christmas-themed ones that we would wear on Christmas Eve night.
Last year I got Kate & myself Christmas-y flannel pants and matching green tops to wear. I also got Stella a little t-shirt with a cute Christmas tree on it. (I didn't make her sleep in it. She just had to wear it for pictures or until she couldn't stand it anymore.)
This year, I went with a blue motif. (This is mainly guided by what holiday dog shirts are available in the "One Spot" at Target.)
Stella gets the dark blue one with the snowflake, and Barley gets the "Let it Snow" one...because he actually likes to play in the snow.
I got myself an "I love snow days" shirt to pair with some pink pants that I found on clearance. Kate gets the adorable blue flannel pants with tiny dogs wearing antlers all over them and a plain blue top.
So not only is this tradition festive and fun, it's functional! Everyone can use new jammies, right?
I can't wait to take some ridiculous family photos!
