Have you ever played the game Telestrations? We played it with my family this weekend, and it was so much fun!
This game is a combination of Pictionary and the classic game of Telephone. (You know, the one where you whisper something into one person's ear, they whisper what they heard to the next person, and so on down the line.) But instead of whispering, you are drawing pictures. Here's the gist of it:
- Everyone starts by picking a card and drawing one of the items listed on the card, based on a roll of the die.
- You then pass your picture to the person to your right, and they guess what it is. They write down their guess and pass that to the next person (without showing them the picture, only the guess.)
- That person then draws what was written down as the guess.
- You keep passing pictures and guesses around the table until your original drawing gets back to you.
The game comes with dry-erase flip books for each person, so it's easy to draw, flip, and pass without giving anything away. There is supposed to be a time limit on the drawing portion (60 seconds, maybe?), but my family didn't use it. However, being crunched for time could lead to some sillier pictures! There are a couple of ways to score the game (a "friendly" version and "competitive" version), but we played without scoring and it was plenty fun.
One of the highlights was when I was given the guess, "Dead Poet's Society 'Oh captain, my captain' saying the Pledge of Allegiance to a cat"...which I then had to draw. Apparently something went terribly awry with "teacher's pet" along the line!
I don't know if we were just in goofy moods or what, but we were all near tears from laughter. Check it out if you're looking for something new to play!
