Leading The Good Life

About

Hello and welcome to Leading the Good Life! Through this blog, I am hoping to help myself stick to a healthy lifestyle – reflecting on food, fitness, happiness, and growth.

I first became interested in food and cooking when I became vegetarian in 2002, while I was a sophomore in college at NYU. It all started as a challenge to myself (just to see if I could do it for 2 weeks) and ended up becoming so much more. All of a sudden I had to think about what I was eating! I found myself making healthier food choices, as well as healthier life choices. I started reading a lot about vegetarianism, food, and cooking. And since I was living in New York City at the time, I had so many resources (restaurants, grocery stores, other vegetarians) available to me. I loved that I was learning something new and making a change in my life.

I ran cross-country in high school and took yoga and the occasional kick-boxing classes in college. After I moved back to Nebraska in 2005, I got back into the sport of running. My aim was to become more active / healthy, and I was surprised when it became such a big part of my life! I have successfully trained for several races, including 6 half marathons and 3 full marathons. (You can see my times and recaps on the Race Recaps page.)

This is my brother and I after our first marathon! (Richmond 11/14/2009)

(Sorry, it's blurry, but I just love this pic!)

I live in Omaha, Nebraska with my wonderful wife, Kate. We just got married on June 2nd, 2012 and had the best day of our lives! (You can see my wedding related posts on the Wedding page.)

We are both close to our families, love being active, and enjoy traveling together. We have a Rat Terrier named Stella and an Italian Greyhound/Boston Terrier puppy named Barley.

Thanks for stopping by - I hope you enjoy following along as I learn all about Leading the Good Life!

  3. Just came across your blog and was intrigued by your decision to “make conscious choices on a daily basis,” it’s what I try to do in my life as well and just started a blog on that journey. Looking forward to reading more! :O)

  4. You had written on my blog about potentially doing a 101 in 1001 list and I just wanted to check in and see if you started! I highly recommend it..it’s been a lot of fun. I will happily trade you help in putting one together for some good recipes.

    • Oh my gosh, I forgot about this! Still sounds like a great idea – thanks for the reminder. With the New Year just around the corner, now would be a good time to start getting a list together!

I will check out your blog to see how it’s been going for you!

  5. Great blog – loved reading your goals & successes (Found it doing a recipe search for the infamouse Netties pea & potato enchies – can’t wait to try your recipe).

Wanted to give you a healthy eating suggestion – Yonana – my kids got it for me (???) for Christmas and we’ve made a couple bowls of yonana and it is good, easy, although a little noisy.

Good luck with your 2012 goals!

    • Hello!

I had never heard of Yonanas so I had to Google it. :) That is probably fun for the kiddos! I’ve whirred up frozen bananas in the food processor before and just LOVED the texture. I might have to try it with a little peanut butter or cocoa powder mixed in!

  6. Hi! I want to do a story on the petition to get your wedding announcement in the Marian HS Newsletter! I’m a reporter with channel 7, and we’re trying to do the story for our ten o clock newscast tonight. Give me a call if you can when you get this– I also emailed– it’s 402-889-0848
